During the week of June 17 – June 23, the Belle Plaine Police Department responded to the following selected calls:

Monday, June 17

At 12:42 a.m., officers were called to a home on the 100 block of Church Street East because a male resident was drunk and causing a disturbance while his wife was trying to sleep. Nothing criminal was reported, and officers assisted in calming things down.

At 8:16 a.m., officers were called to assist with a disturbance in a home on the 1000 block of Church Street West. They were able to calm things down. Nothing criminal was reported.

At 3:03 p.m., officers responded to a one-vehicle car accident near the intersection of Commerce Drive West and Meridian Street South that was caused by a medical incident with the driver. There were no injuries.

At 4:19 p.m., an officer took a check fraud report from the 1000 block of Enterprise Drive East in which a male attempted to pass a bad check. The incident is under investigation.

At 7:56 p.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of Church Street West for a possible runaway. Upon arrival the child had returned and was advised of ways to work through hard problems.

Tuesday, June 18

At 7:20 a.m., the department responded to a report of a male asleep in his car on the 100 block of Aspen Lane North who was taking up two parking spaces. He was awakened and asked to move. No impairment was detected, and he was just tired.

At 1:32 p.m., a person came to the police department to report his scooter missing. It had been gone for several months.

At 3:15 p.m., officers were made aware of a large piece of construction equipment parked at the intersection of Elk and Park, blocking the stop sign. The owner of the equipment was notified and will move it.

At 4:42 p.m., police responded to a report from a mother saying she could not find her son after he was home late. She had checked all the parks and a friend’s home. He was seen by an officer and was brought home.

At 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a medical call on the 200 block of Elk Street South in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Wednesday, June 19

At 3:07 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a vehicle running for several hours at the reporting party’s neighbor’s home on the 500 block of Forest Street West. An officer arrived to find a male, 28 of Belle Plaine, passed out in the driver’s seat. When the officer woke him up, it was determined he was very intoxicated. He was arrested and jailed for third-degree DWI and open bottle.

At 6:43 p.m., an officer took a report of a downed light pole on the 900 block of Cobblestone Lane. It appeared to have been hit, broken off and dragged down the street for a few yards. Public Works was made aware. No evidence was present to determine a suspect.

At 11:59 a.m., Public Works reported that trash had been dumped at the city’s compost site. Mail from the garbage had a name that led officers to the suspect. The male, age 24 of Belle Plaine, had been cleaning out his parents’ garage and dumped the extra trash there. He was cited for littering.

At 2:46 p.m., an officer assisted the State Patrol with a possible DWI on Hwy. 169.

At 4:22 p.m., a party called from the 600 block of Frontier Circle with questions regarding obtaining a harassment restraining order.

At 4:27 p.m., a party called in about three unknown males whom she caught walking around her neighborhood near the 700 block of O’Brien Parkway in the early morning. When she confronted them, they reportedly ran to a running parked car with the headlights off. She called in the incident in case they were prowlers.

At 4:37 p.m., officers responded to a medical call on the 300 block of Enterprise Drive East in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Thursday, June 20

At 4:16 p.m., a reporting party called police after hearing someone knocking on her trailer, walking on her back steps and knocking on the door on the 500 block of Forest Street West. She reported seeing a silhouette of a person standing outside her window. The person was gone upon police arrival.

At 9:55 a.m., police performed a welfare check on the 500 block of Maple Street South. A male had reportedly made concerning comments via text messages with a friend. The male was located safe, and he said the messages were misunderstood and that his friend was fine.

At 2:09 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Enterprise Drive East to assist with a hotel guest who was staying past checkout time without paying. As officers arrived and were preparing to go to the room, someone called the hotel and paid for one more night.

At 4:03 p.m., the police department took a report from a grandfather stating that his granddaughter had money taken from her account by a male acquaintance. He was advised that she needed to call her bank and local police to make the report.

At 9:07 p.m., a juvenile male was called in as a runaway by his parents from the 900 block of Scott Lane. He had reportedly been gone for over 24 hours and had not returned. The parents reported he often leaves on his own for long periods of time, but not as long as the report. The incident is being investigated as a runaway.

At 11:40 p.m., police responded to a medical call on the 1000 block of State Street West in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Friday, June 21

At 10:44 a.m., officers were called to a home on the 700 block of Elm Street South for a verbal argument between a father and son. The son left the home willingly, and all was calm before officers left.

At 11:06 a.m., officers gave a presentation for the drivers’ education class on the 200 block of Market Street South.

At 12:03 p.m., officers were made aware of a lost dog with brown patches. Owner’s information was gathered in case it is located by police.

At 3:07 p.m., Public Works reported a damaged light pole near the intersection of Hickory Boulevard and Main Street East. Officers determined it had been hit by a drunk driver arrested recently, based on bumper pieces and paint residue left on the scene. The male suspect, age 28 of Belle Plaine, was cited for hit and run.

At 5:03 p.m., a reporting party called in a report that his son’s bike had been stolen from the high school where it was locked up on a bike rack. The incident is under investigation.

At 5:14 p.m., the police department got a report of property damage on the 100 block of Aspen Lane. A semi truck hit a light pole at a gas station but was no longer on the scene. An officer was able to determine the driver and the company and gather insurance information from both parties.

At 8:52 p.m., police got a report of a loose dog from the 800 block of Shea Circle. The owner was located and was advised of city ordinances.

At 9:50 p.m., officers were called for a disturbance in a home on the 1000 block of Church Street West. A parent wanted police to speak to her child about his behavior and help calm him down.

At 10:23 p.m., an officer was called for a traffic complaint in which a driver was swerving all over the road near Hwy. 169 and Enterprise Drive. The vehicle was located and stopped, and after investigation, the female driver, age 24 of Le Sueur, was arrested and jailed for fourth-degree DWI, improper lane use, open bottle,  and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Saturday, June 22

At 8:13 a.m., a reporting party found a bike near the 800 block of Meadow Circle with several broken parts. It was brought to the police department for safekeeping.

At 9:53 a.m., an officer took a gas theft report from the 300 block of Beaver Street West. Someone had broken a lock and stolen 30 gallons of gas from private company tanks.

At 3:12 p.m., an officer was called after kids were found playing with water and paper towels in the park bathroom on the 800 block of Forest Street West. They were instructed to stop and clean it up; their parents were notified.

At 3:42 p.m., officers responded to a medical call on Hwy. 169 and Main Street East in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

At 5:54 p.m, an officer took a report of a stolen bicycle on the 1000 block of Enterprise Drive East.  The bike had been parked  and left unlocked at a bike rack at the grocery store while the owner was inside working. The incident is under investigation.

Sunday,  June 23

At 10:06 a.m., a six-year-old boys was found walking alone and lost near the 300 block of Market Street South. He was visiting his grandma, went for a walk and lost his way. Officers were able to locate a family member who was out looking for him and returned him home safely. All were advised on his needing supervision.

At 11:11 a.m., officers were called for check fraud at a gas station on the 100 block of Aspen Lane North. They had the suspect’s information. The incident is under investigation.

At 6:19 p.m., officers took a runaway report from the 900 block of Scott Lane. It is an ongoing issue with this juvenile. He reportedly comes and goes as he wants and is not listening to his parents. He was located and detained in a juvenile facility.

At 7:40 p.m., officers responded to a medical call on the 300 block of Enterprise Drive East in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
