During the week of Sept. 9-14, the Belle Plaine Police Department responded to the following selected calls:
Monday, September 9
At 6:23 a.m. officers were called to the 1000 block of Church Street West by a parent to assist with her child who was out of control. By the time officers arrived, the child had calmed down.
Tuesday, September 10
At 9:09 a.m., officers checked an alley after a person called in suspicious activity. After investigation, a 56-year-old male from Belle Plaine was cited for drug paraphernalia.
At 11:02 a.m., police responded to a medical call on the 200 block of State Street West in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 11:10 a.m., an officer was made aware of a victim of a scam on the 800 block of Prairie Street West. She was spoken to by police and refused to cooperate but was educated on internet scams.
At 4:13 p.m., police responded to a medical call on the 500 block of Orchard Street East in which a female in possession of drugs was taken to the hospital by ambulance and charged with felony drug possession.
At 8:18 p.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of State Street West for a domestic assault. After investigation, a 27-year-old female was arrested and jailed for domestic assault.
At 9:41 p.m., an officer took a runaway report on the 200 block of Meridian Street South. The juvenile male was located the next day in a neighboring district and detained.
At 10:18 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Cedar Street South for a domestic in progress. Officers determined it was not physical and spoke to the suspect until he calmed down.
Wednesday, September 11
At 9:48 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of State Street West for a medical call in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 9:16 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of State Street West for a medical call in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Thursday, September 12
At 11:59 a.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Linen Street South for a deceased male by home care staff. He was located in his home and died of natural causes.
At 10:59 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of Farmers Lane. A female was checked on and declined medical transport. Officers later responded to the same address, and she was transported.
Friday, September 13
At 7:47 a.m., officers were called after a toddler was found to be crossing a street chasing a puppy with no parents around. He was located and reunited with his parents.
At 11:11 a.m., officers took a report of a longboard theft at the 500 block of Beaver Street East. Later, two males were reported to be walking around the neighborhood acting suspiciously. It was determined that it was the person who reported the theft and a friend looking for the longboard.
At 3:15 a.m., officers took a report from a man located on the 100 block of Forest Street West who fell for a phone scam. He gave out personal information but was not out any money. He was advised of his options.
At 11:13 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Farmers Place. It was determined to be fireworks, but the source was not found.
Saturday, September 14
At 12:10 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Main Street East for a domestic in progress. It was determined to be a verbal argument regarding money owed between parties. The money was paid back and the pair separated for the evening.
At 1:02 p.m., officers assisted county responders and the State Patrol with a two-vehicle crash in St. Lawrence Township.
At 6:20 p.m., police were called to Highway 169 and Meridian Street South after someone spotted a female walking on the shoulder of Highway 169. The female was located and was given a ride to a rest stop at her request.
At 10:08 p.m., officers were called to the 200 block of State Street West because the reporting person could hear his neighbor calling for help. Officers located the victim in his apartment, and he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Sunday, September 15
At 10:11 a.m., on officer took a report of a dog bite on the 200 block of Eagle Street South. Animal control was called and will be following up with the dog owners. A report and quarantine are underway.
At 7:34 p.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block of Church Street West for a juvenile runaway call. The juvenile was located nearby and brought home.
At 9:35 p.m., an officer stopped to check on a vehicle parked in a park on the 500 block of Orchard Street East. The officer found a male and female inside and advised them the park was closed and that it was not a good place to engage in private activities. Both were adults, but neither had IDs and had to call for a ride.
