During the week of July 29 - August 4, the Belle Plaine Police Department responded to the following selected calls:
Monday, July 29
At 2:20 a.m., officers were called for a hit and run accident near Walnut Street South and Main Street East. The suspect was found to be intoxicated. The 25-year-old male from Belle Plaine was arrested and jailed for second-degree DWI and failure to report an accident.
At 12:47 p.m., an officer was called to a two-vehicle accident near Meridian Street South and Highway 169. There were no injuries, and there was minor damage done.
At 5:31 p.m., police responded to a medical call on the 900 block of Elm Street South in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 5:56 p.m., a broken window pane on the 100 block of Meridian Street South was called into police. The owner of the building was notified. It is unknown if the damage was criminal or if it was caused by the degrading window frame.
At 7:36 p.m., a party witnessed an altercation in a neighboring yard on the 300 block of Grove Street North. When those responsible noticed the reporting party, they began yelling inappropriate things at them. Police were called, and all were advised to stay clear of each other. A harassment restraining order is being processed.
At 7:53 p.m., police responded to a medical call on the 700 block of Elm Street South in which a male was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Tuesday, July 30
At 10:43 a.m., police responded to a medical call on the 1000 block of State Street West in which a female was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
At 4:57 p.m., police were requested for extra patrol on the 900 block of Elm Street South, due to cars frequently speeding in that area.
At 5:17 p.m., police received a report of several people shooting guns at the boat launch north of Belle Plaine. Upon police arrival, no one was around and no evidence of guns or vehicles was found. Police determined that the report was unfounded.
Wednesday, July 31
At 10:54 a.m., a police officer checked in on a male after a medical call. He declined medical attention.
At 10:55 a.m., a stolen ATV from a 2015 case was recovered in another county. The owner was notified, and the investigation was re-opened.
At 12:59 p.m., a gas line was struck by a power company replacing a power pole on the 300 block of Main Street West. Markings reportedly appeared to be off course, causing the issue. The line was sealed off in preparation for a repair crew.
At 2:14 p.m., an officer took a domestic abuse no contact order violation complaint on the 300 block of Enterprise Drive East. The suspect was identified, and an alert was put out for his arrest.
At 6:18 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of Prairie Street East for a minor accident in a parking lot. There were no injuries, and insurance was exchanged.
At 6:32 p.m., police were called to the 1000 block of Provence Lane, where the reporting party discovered his e-mail and cell phone accounts were hacked. He was reportedly not out any money, but he needed a police report in order to work with his cell phone company to resolve the issue.
At 9:28 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle leave the roadway and turn onto a sidewalk near Commerce Drive East and Meridian Street South. The officer stopped the vehicle and cited the 18-year-old female driver from Plymouth for driving off the roadway, failure to change her address on her license and no proof of insurance. She stated that she did not know the area and was arguing with her passenger about where to stargaze and didn’t realize she was no longer on the road.
Thursday, August 1
At 2:34 a.m., police assisted hospital staff in notifying a male that his son was in the hospital.
At 5:06 a.m., an officer provided traffic control for the Belle Plaine Fire Department during a fire call at a business on the 1000 block of Old Hwy. 169 Boulevard. An equipment room was smoking.
At 2:36 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Meridian Street South after a female was overheard yelling at someone. Upon arrival, the female was inside her apartment and refused to answer the door.
At 2:44 p.m., police responded to a medical call on the 700 block of Elm Street South in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 7:29 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Forest Street West where two female neighbors were arguing over an incident with their kids. The two were told to stay away from each other and were advised on the order for protection procedure if they needed it.
At 9:13 p.m., police responded to a medical call on the 500 block of Ash Street South in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Friday, August 2
At 11:10 a.m., police responded to a medical call near Main Street West and West Street North in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 11:34 p.m., an officer located a vehicle called in on a complaint from Jordan near Highway 169 and 2nd Street. It was stopped after the officer observed a driving violation. The 30-year-old male driver from Minneapolis was arrested and jailed for fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. His passenger was also served a harassment restraining order from 2018 that authorities had not been able to serve him.
Saturday, August 3
At 7:27 a.m., police responded to a medical call on the 800 block of Main Street West in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 9:46 a.m., police were called to Highway 169 and Blakeley Trail because the reporting party saw someone trying to tow his vehicle from the side of the road and thought they were stealing it. It was determined that the tow driver was there for his daughter’s vehicle, which was very similar to the reporting party’s and was up the road. It was determined to be a misunderstanding.
At 6:54 p.m., an officer responded to the 500 block of Forest Street West on a report of a male yelling at a female. The reporting party heard it from outside. Upon arrival, nothing was heard, and when the parties were asked about it, all were uncooperative, including the reporting party.
At 7:44 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of Farmers Lane for a car horn going off. It was determined that the car horn was malfunctioning. The owner was contacted and said he would contact someone to stop it.
At 11:28 p.m., a male called police after a female he had just met and had been video chatting with online threatened to upload nude videos of him to You Tube if he didn’t pay her money she was asking for. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and that he should block her and be more careful about to whom he sends private messages.
Sunday, August 4
At 4:49 p.m., an officer assisted another agency with a traffic complaint hear Highway 169 and 280th Street. It was determined that the male driver was having a medical emergency and needed to be transported to the hospital by ambulance.
