During the partial week of Sept. 23 - 29, the Belle Plaine Police Department responded to the following selected calls:
Monday, September 23
At 5:34 a.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 700 block of Shannon Circle. A female toddler was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 10:36 a.m. a person reported that he was victim of a phone scam at the 200 block of Prairie St. E. He purchased $1000 in gift cards after a caller said he had to do it to satisfy a social security administration issue. He also gave out his personal information. Police advised him on identity theft process and the fraud is under investigation.
At 11:34 a.m. a person came to the police department after she got a call from a “Mega Millions Rep” who said they were sending seven men to her home to present her with her winnings but had to send $9000 to a given address to secure her winnings. She reported the scam and is not out any money.
At 12:24 p.m. an officer was called to the high school for a knife found on a student. The student forgot he had it and accidentally brought it to school. No crime was committed.
At 8:15 p.m. officers assisted a motorist who was experiencing a panic attack at Hwy. 25 at the city limits. The man did not want medical attention, had a ride on the way and said he was okay.
At 11:23 p.m. officers were called to an apartment building at the 400 block of Meridian St. S. for a noise complaint. A male subject was yelling and playing music loudly with his windows open and police determined him to be intoxicated. The man was uncooperative with officers and after several more visits for the same complaint during the night, he was cited for two ordinance violations and disorderly conduct.
Tuesday, September 24
At 8:44 a.m. officers were called back for the fourth time to a noise complaint at 400 block of Meridian St. S., same as ICR 1905967, and the male suspect was pounding on the walls of his neighbor. The male, age 62 from Belle Plaine, continued to be belligerent and was arrested and jailed for disorderly conduct.
At 8:48 p.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 300 block of Orchard St. E. A female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 9:38 p.m. a person reported that an unknown vehicle was parked in his driveway at the 700 block of Forest St. W. The officer located the owner and advised that he cannot park in private driveways.
At 11:42 a.m. a person reported that someone sent him a fake check for a boat he is trying to sell at the 900 block of Orchard St. E. The bank did not cash it and advised him that it was a fake check. He still has the boat and just wanted police aware of the scam.
Wednesday, September 25
At 5:23 a.m. an officer assisted with power lines down from a fallen tree at the intersection of Hickory Blvd. and Orchard St. E. Part of the city lost power but there were no injuries. Power was restored about an hour later.
At 6:39 a.m. a construction noise complaint was taken at the 800 block of Orchard St. E. The reporting person said the construction crew started at 4 a.m. The officer spoke with the crew and advised them of the ordinance prohibiting loud work before 7 a.m.
At 8:43 p.m. police were called to a medical emergency at the 200 block of State St. W. A female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 10:20 a.m. police received a request for officers to try to contact a female to let her know that her family is trying to reach her with urgent news about her mom. Officers knocked and called with no success at the address given on Enterprise Dr. E. near Coborns.
At 11:18 p.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 600 block of Main St. W. A male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Thursday, September 26
At 5:50 a.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 200 block of State St. E. A male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 6:55 a.m. police responded to a disturbance at the 1000 block of Church St. W. Officers were called because two siblings were fighting and the parents wanted officers to intervene. Police arrived and meditated the situation.
At 8:04 a.m. officers were asked to go and wake up a male at the 200 block of Commerce Dr. E. as his family was trying to contact him to tell him his daughter was in a car accident. Police found the man at home and advised him to call his son.
At 9:02 a.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 600 block of Forest St. W. A male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 4:49 p.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 300 block Main St. W. A female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Friday, September 27
At 1:46 a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for traveling 93 mph in a 65 zone at the intersection of Hwy. 169 and Enterprise Dr. The officer found the male, age 28 from Le Sueur, to appear intoxicated. After investigation, he was found to be just under the legal limit but not safe to drive. The man was cited for careless driving and speed, taken to jail to be booked, and then released to a sober party.
At 1:40 p.m. a person came to the police department to report that she received a scam letter and check in the mail regarding a purse she had for sale online. She did not cash the check as she knew it was a scam. She just wanted to report it to police.
At 4:50 p.m. a person called police over a dispute with a family member that led to negative posts on social media at the 200 block of State St. W. The reporting person wanted police to advise the other party to stop. Officers offered to provide a civil standby for property exchange to keep the peace.
At 6:04 p.m. officers checked a residence at the 100 block of Court St. E. for a vehicle and female party regarding an investigation out of Yellow Medicine County.
At 10:29 p.m. officers provided extra patrol at the homecoming dance at the 200 block of Market St. S.
Saturday, September 28
At 11:16 a.m. an officer checked an address at the 600 block of Court St. W. for a vehicle that was part of an investigation out of Scott County.
At 1:43 p.m. an officer was called for a domestic assault at the 300 block of Eagle St. N. After investigation, it was determined an assault took place, and the male suspect, age 64 from Minneapolis, was charged with two counts of domestic assault and interfering with 911 calls.
Sunday, Sept. 29
At 2:02 a.m. an officer assisted the Sibley County Sheriff with a DWI arrest at the police department by using their DMT machine for testing.
At 4:08 a.m. police responded to a medical emergency at the 700 block of Frontier Dr. A female taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 10:31 p.m. an officer took a report of a possible burglary at the 200 block of Raven St. E. The homeowner reported coming home to find her door open and a purse missing. The incident is under investigation.
