During the week of July 20-26, the Belle Plaine Police Department responded to the following selected calls:
Monday, July 20
At 9:04 a.m. police responded to a medical call from the 800 block of Prairie Street West in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 10:27 a.m. officers received a report of stolen property from the corner of South Street East and Hickory Boulevard. An industrial edger was left unattended at a job site for five minutes when the crew went to park the trailer. It was gone when they returned and it is now under investigation.
Tuesday, July 21
At 12:36 a.m. police heard a report from the 800 block of Heritage Trail about a juvenile male walking down the road with a BB gun. He was located and had been shooting birds just outside city limits. He was advised on gun safety and city ordinances.
At 6:17 p.m. officers responded to a call from the 300 block of Church Street West in regard to disturbances from a child custody dispute. The parties involved were advised that it would have to be sorted in civil court.
At 8:44 p.m. police responded to a medical call from the 600 block of Main Street West in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 10:00 p.m. police received a call from the 300 block of Willow Street North after a female found drug paraphernalia while cleaning out her ex’s belongings. It was turned over to the police for destruction.
Wednesday, July 22
At 10:44 a.m. police received a call at the police department from an individual reporting a suspicious post on Craigslist about a found dog that he thought may have been stolen. There was not enough information for officers to determine if a crime had been committed.
At 3:19 p.m. police responded to a medical call from Highway 169 and Main Street East in which a male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 7:48 p.m. police were dispatched to a home on the 900 block of Ashford Road after the family dog accidentally locked the mother and kids out of the house. The father arrived with a key and they regained entry before police arrived.
At 8:14 p.m. police received a call about a suspicious vehicle from the 1000 block of Church Street West. The males inside the vehicle claimed to be with Frontier but there were no markings on the vehicle. They were gone before officers arrived to investigate.
At 8:54 p.m. officers located a dog inside of a bar on the 100 block of Meridian Street North that was not a working dog and just belonged to one of the patrons. Both patrons and the bar owner were advised that it is against city ordinance for animals to be in food establishments and the dog was removed from inside.
Thursday, July 23
At 6:42 a.m. officers checked on a house on the 1000 block of State Street East that had been reported as vacant but had doors open and lights on recently. It was later determined that the owner was back in town after several years and was fixing the place to sell. Nothing criminal was occurring.
At 6:36 p.m. police were called from the 600 block of Butler Drive after a female noticed an unknown male on her property on her Ring camera. She was not home at the time but noted that he was on camera for several minutes. She gave a description of the man and requested extra patrol.
At 7:44 p.m. police were called from the 1300 block of Robert Creek Curve after a female realized that she was scammed out of $550 online while trying to buy a pet bird but realized it was a scam after sending the money.
Friday, July 24
At 2:52 a.m. three vehicles were cited downtown and towed for parking during weekly street cleaning hours as posted.
At 5:56 p.m. police received a report at the police department about a red pickup truck outfitted with drywall work that had almost hit the reporting party’s son while he was biking at an intersection and the truck had not yielded. The passenger leaned out the window and swore at the kid. Extra patrol for the vehicle will be conducted.
At 8:36 p.m. officers were called for a domestic on the 100 block of Church Street East. After investigation, the male, age 35 from Belle Plaine, was arrested and jailed for domestic assault and misdemeanor obstruction.
At 9:49 p.m. police received a complaint from the 500 block of Forest Street West of an intoxicated man outside yelling. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the male, who said he was not the one yelling and went inside. No one else was around at the time.
At 10:29 p.m. a welfare check on children was requested on the 700 block of Forest Street West after a report that adults were arguing and upsetting the kids. The kids and adults present were spoken to and all appeared to be okay. Adults said that they were arguing about a camper, but nothing physical took place.
Saturday, July 25
At 5:39 a.m. officers were called to the 200 block of Raven Street East for a disturbance between the caller and her son who was intoxicated. She wanted him to leave, but since they both lived in the home, they were advised of options.
At 11:15 a.m. police received a call from the 100 block of Church Street East to document that a work truck had been egged overnight. No damage was reported.
At 12:10 p.m. a business from the 100 block of Aspen Lane North called police to report a repeat trespasser on their property. The male was located and advised on the trespass.
At 12:52 p.m. a report from the 100 block of Prairie Street East was received after the caller found his truck had been broken into overnight and that a camera and cash had been taken. It is now under investigation.
At 8:41 p.m. police received a call from the 200 block of Forest Street West requesting sandbags due to flooding issues after the hard rain. Public works was contacted to assist the homeowners.
Sunday, July 26
At 1:40 p.m. an officer took a report of a hit and run on the 600 block of Main Street East after a man noticed his side mirror was hit and hanging by wires. It had happened overnight while the vehicle was parked on the street. It is now under further investigation.
At 2:28 p.m. an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 25 at the city limits for going 50 mph in a 30 zone. The female driver, age 16 from Belle Plaine, was cited for speed.
At 6:37 p.m. police responded to a medical call from the 900 block of Cobblestone Lane in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
At 9:03 p.m. officers received a complaint of a male driving a golf cart through yards and a park, swerving and speeding. The male, age 20 from Belle Plaine, was located and stopped. He is known to police for similar previous issues. He was cited for ordinance violations.
At 9:56 p.m. police responded to a medical call from the 300 block of Main Street West in which a female was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
