The 61st anniversary of Bar-B-Q Days begins Friday, July 19, at Union Square Park. It marks three fun-filled days  with good food, carnival rides, family fun shows, Bingo, live music, a parade, the crowning of a new queen and royalty, fireworks, and lots more.

Most food and beverages from last year will be available, including the festival namesake bar-b-q beef sandwich for $4. The pre-sliced meat will again be from Coborn’s Grocery Store.

Beer Garden Details

The beer garden will feature Miller Lite (strong) for $3 and Summer Shandy for $4. Also on sale will be Blakeley brewed u4ic beer, plus Sharps, Summer Shandy, Redd’s Apple Ale, Mike’s Hard Cranberry, and Henry’s Hard Orange Soda. Beer is available for $4 or $5 per glass depending on your preference. Pitchers of Miller Lite are $12 for pitchers ($10 refill). Pitchers of Summer Shandy are $15 ($13 refill) and u4ic beer is $18 ($16 refill).

Specials in the beer garden ($1 off cups and $2 off pitchers) will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 3-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Discount Ride Tickets

Advanced carnival ride tickets for Bar-B-Q Days are still on sale at several locations. You can get your tickets at a discounted price until noon on July 19 at the following locations: Ag Partners – Town & Country, Borough Bowl, Cenex Convenience Store, Coborn’s Grocery Store, CornerStone State Bank, Sparetime Tavern, State Bank of Belle Plaine, and Belle Plaine Festivals and Events at the Chamber Office.

A strip of 10 tickets purchased in advance costs $17. Each ticket is good for one ride for any age.

New This Year: Teen Dance

The BBQ Days royalty and candidates will host a Teen Dance Party for ages 13 - 18 on Thursday, July 18, from 7 – 11 p.m. in the Gazebo area at Union Square Park. An entry fee of $5 will be collected at the door. There is a city curfew of 10 p.m. for kids ages 13 – 14-years-old and 11 p.m. for 15 – 17-years-old.

Parade Theme: Hit TV ShowAlso new this year is a theme for the parade on Saturday afternoon. The Belle Plaine Chamber of Commerce will award cash prizes totaling $1,000 for the best decorated floats incorporating the theme ‘Hit TV Show’.

Horse Show (Minn. Valley Riders) behind Chatfield Elementary School, 7-9 p.m.

Carnival Rides (Union Square Park) at 6:30 p.m., tickets good all weekend for all ages.

Jack Winders (acoustic) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Blue Ringers (classic rock and country cover) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Saturday, July 20

Bull Run-5K & Kids’ Fun Run (District Center Bldg.) Registration, 6:30-8 a.m.; Kids’ Fun Run, 7:45 a.m.; 5K race, 8 a.m.

Chalk the Walk, 8 a.m., District Center Bldg. Contestants will receive chalk and a section of sidewalk to decorate.

Bar-B-Q Days Parade (Fire Hall to Lutheran Home) at noon

Fire Dept. Water Fights (community pool) after parade

Carnival Rides (Union Square Park) 1 p.m.

Miller Denn & Ditch Creek Dixies, at 2 p.m. (acoustic mix of bluegrass and country)

Queen Coronation (senior high school) at 4 p.m. Admission of $4 or free with a 2019 Bar-B-Q Days button sold by Bar-B-Q Days Royalty candidates.
