A Belle Plaine man identified as William Wayland Davis III is facing two felony domestic assault charges after Belle Plaine Police received a report that he had assaulted his wife at their home in Belle Plaine.
A Belle Plaine police officer reported that the victim stated that Davis has a history of domestic assault.
The victim reported that Davis had her down on their bed and bruised her wrists on June 29. She attempted to get away. The charges state that because the incident occurred around a week ago, the bruises have faded.
A separate incident reportedly occurred on June 22, when Davis allegedly threw a plastic jewelry box at the victim, hitting her in the eye. The victim reportedly had a black eye for a week. The victim added that Davis gets angry when he drinks and accuses her of cheating on him with other men.
The charges state that when an officer went to Davis’s place of work, he set his wallet on a counter and said, “I’m going to jail, aren’t I?”
Davis stated that he and his wife had been “wrestling” when his wife scratched his chest, and he got upset which resulted in him “accidently” throwing something at his wife. Davis stated that he would never intentionally hurt her.
The officer overheard Davis speaking with coworkers and mentioned that his wife had a black eye.
Davis has been convicted of two domestic assault crimes, one fifth-degree assault and a violation of an order for protection in the last 10 years.
