One person is dead and a second person has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries after a fatal two-car crash occurred on Union Hill Blvd. (County Road 7) north of Delaware Ave. in Belle Plaine Township at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, according to a report from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the press release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation indicates that a 2007 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on Union Hill Blvd. when it struck a 1995 Chevrolet pickup that was travelling southbound on Union Hill Blvd.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Chevrolet pickup was transported by ambulance to Mayo New Prague hospital and eventually airlifted to North Memorial with serious injuries.

At this time, it has not been determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash; however, the road was snow covered at the time of the incident.

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this incident by the Belle Plaine Police Department, Belle Plaine Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance Service, Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, and Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating this crash.  Positive identification of the deceased, along with official causes of death, will be made by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
