Belle Plaine will celebrate its 38th annual German Day festival, cookout and queen coronation tonight, beginning at 5 p.m. Local businesses will be offering free food samples at the cookout along the sidewalks of downtown. There will be pony rides, caricature drawings, a kids’ pedal pull, and other activities for the kids.
The German Day Queen Coronation and the introduction of the Bar-B-Q Days Royalty will also take place. This year's German Day queen candidates include: Vivian Herrmann, Kimberly Teal, Hannah Schwingler, Rachel Schmitz, and Wynter Davis. Outgoing royalty are: German Day Queen Makayla Seifert, First princess Emma Reed and Second Princess Olivia Schatz.
The evening’s musical entertainment will be the Johnny Holm Band. A sauerkraut eating contest will be open to all who want to enter.
The Cookout begins at 5 p.m., pedal pull at 5 p.m., coronation at 6 p.m., music at 8 p.m., and the sauerkraut eating contest at 1 a.m. at Neisen’s Corner Bar.
