Sibley County’s 149th annual free fair begins with Arlington Raceway’s Stockcar Shootout in the Grandstand at 7 p.m. followed by Chopper, The World’s Nuttiest D.J. at 8 p.m. in the Entertainment center. The five day fair has something for everyone to enjoy, including livestock shows, horse shows, ranch rodeo, 4-H events, rib cook-off, tractor pull, night of destruction, auto racing, demolition derby, live music entertainment, and much more.

CMP Tractor Pull

Area pullers will showcase their strength in multiple class competitions at the Sibley County Fair’s CMP Tractor Pull. Music by The Full Throttle Band will round out the entertainment at 8:00 p.m.

RibFest

Ribbers from all over the country will be competing in Mankato’s 21st  Annual RibFest to be judged in three categories: Best Ribs, Best Pulled-Pork, and People’s Choice. The festival also brings in some top notch music acts, such as John Michael Montgomery, Bret Michaels, Tonic, Sugar Ray, Free Falling and more, performing in the Vetter Stone open-air Amphitheater. You be the judge!

Swimming Pool Carnival Spectacular

Come on out to the Carnival Spectacular at the swimming pool. There will be a bounce house, dunk tank and games. Don’t forget Free Family Swim on Sunday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. City resident families can swim free. The pool closes for the season Sunday, Aug. 26.

Old Time Harvest Festival

The Scott-Carver Threshers’ Association celebrates their 55th Annual Old-Time Harvest Steam & Gas Engine Festival. Daily events include a craft and flea market, parade, dyno testing, machinery demonstrations, food, and live music. Special features include a spark show, tractor challenge, pedal tractor pull, and vintage baseball with 1860’s rules.

Lakefront Days

Lakefront Park opens at 4 pm with carnival rides, inflatables, GaminRide, food and beverages, superhero meet and greets. Children and adults are invited to attend Friday’s Princess Parties to meet with Enchanted Princesses. Pups and adults are welcome at the 5 p.m. Yappy Hour.

Stepping Forward For Demention Walk

The Lutheran Home Belle Plaine campus is hosting its second annual walk to raise awareness about dementia and those it impacts. Participants will walk 2 miles in memory or honor of a loved one with memory loss. Post-walk activities from 10 to 11 a.m. include face painting, balloon twisting and live music by the Vine Garage Band.

When: Aug. 4 - Walk begins at 9 a.m.

Where: The Lutheran Home at 611 Main St. West, Belle Plaine

Cost: Pre-registration Adults $20 + $3.16 fee, Children $7 + 2.45 fee

National Night Out

Belle Plaine police and Scott County Sheriff’s Office are both planning events for National Night Out. Belle Plaine police will again host National Night Out activities at Heritage Square Park.  Events include food, water games, give-aways, bounce houses, face painting by Belle Plaine royalty, and Belle Plaine firefighters. Bike helmets will be handed out to the first 120 children who have their bike inspected. There will be police vehicles on display, along with the Belle Plaine Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance, and a special appearance from North Memorial Air Care Helicopter.

Carver County Fair

Another nearby county fair kicks off this week in Waconia with five days packed with entertainment at the Carver County Fair. The sprawling fairgrounds feature something for everyone – a coin hunt, animal barns and a petting zoo, midway rides, exhibits, 4-H events, a demolition derby, tractor pull, pig races, food and music options for everyone’s taste, and Magic Maniac from comedy magician Kevin Hall.

When: Aug. 8 - 12

Where: Carver County Fairgrounds: 501 W. 3rd St., Waconia

Cost: $8 gate admission. Children age 6 and under free. Midway rides 10 for $20.
