Belle Plaine Fire Department Open House

Join the Belle Plaine Fire Department Relief Association for the annual open house and fundraiser. The event will feature fire truck rides, bounce houses, food and beverages, music & dancing, live entertainment and a beer garden. The Charlie Sticha Band will play from 1 to 5 p.m. At 8 p.m., rain or shine, Open Highway will take the stage. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the fire department’s relief association.

Carver County Fair

Another nearby county fair kicks off, this week in Waconia with five packed days of entertainment at the Carver County Fair. The sprawling fairgrounds features something for everyone – a coin hunt, animal barns and a petting zoo, midway rides, exhibits, 4-H events, a demolition derby, tractor pull, pig races, food and music options for everyone’s taste, and Magic Maniac from comedy magician Kevin Hall.

When: Aug. 8-12

Where: Carver County Fairgrounds; 501 W. 3rd St., Waconia

Cost: $8 gate admission. Children age 6 and under free. Midway rides 10 for $20.

Nicollet County Fair

Experience Nicollet County’s 145th annual festival that promises family-friendly fun events and entertainment. The five-day fair includes midway games, rides, a variety of educational and livestock exhibits, harness races, tractor pull, talent show, demolition derby, auto races, and more.

When: Aug. 8-12

Where: 400 West Union St., St. Peter

Cost: Free – except for grandstands events

FISH Presents Session on Homelessness in Scott County

Families and individuals Sharing Hope (FISH) will hold an informational session of what homelessness looks like in Scott County. Topics discussed will include what are the major causes of homelessness, a day in the life of a homeless person and how the FISH community can help.

Music on the Lawn

Trainwreck Duet will be performing at this Thursday’s free “Music on the Lawn 2018” music series, hosted by The Lutheran Home Association. The piano and acoustic duo perform a variety of music with a twist. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and get something to eat from the food trucks that will vary each week. The event is weather-permitting.

Irish Fair of Minnesota

Enjoy the culture of Ireland at the 39th Annual Irish Fair of Minnesota. The three-day annual celebration of Irish heritage and culture draws in over 100,000 people to enjoy traditional Irish music, dance, and an array of great food and beverage options. Great music all weekend by local and international bands, such as Gaelic Storm, We Banjo 3 and more.

Minnesota’s primary election takes place. After the primary, the top two vote-getters will advance to the November 6 general election. See the MN Secretary of State website to review the list of acceptable documents for registering.

Huzzah! The Renaissance Festival Opens

Journey back in time as the 47th annual Minnesota Renaissance Festival begins. One of the largest themed events in the country will feature over 250 artisans in the marketplace, 16 stages of live entertainment, hundreds of 16th century characters roaming around the village, and live jousting.

When: Weekends Aug.18 – Sept. 30, Plus Labor Day and Festival Friday on Sept. 28

The Henderson Hummingbird Hurrah

Fans of hummingbirds can enjoy these colorful and amazing birds up close in the garden during Henderson’s Hummingbird Hurrah. It is a celebration of the ruby-throated hummingbird, sponsored by the Minnesota River Valley Audubon Chapter. This birding festival offers opportunities for the whole family to learn more about this impressive species, such as how to attract them to your garden, keeping them happy, conservation, and biology. There will banding demonstrations, garden tours, painting classes, speakers, book signing sessions, children’s activities, and a Hummingbird Mall. Don’t forget to bring your camera and a lawn chair.
