Care for Caleb

Caleb was diagnosed with PKAN (pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration) in 2016, at 12 years old. PKAN is a terminal and genetic disease that causes iron to build up at the base of the brain. As the disease progresses it causes loss of ability to walk, talk, eat, and sometimes breathe. Patients with PKAN can have different symptoms and progression; some progress rapidly while some progress slowly and can plateau for weeks to months at a time. PKAN for Caleb has progressed slowly over the last few years. Caleb attends high school in Belle Plaine as his health allows. Because his body expels so much energy just trying to function, he is losing weight and doesn’t get enough nutrition so Caleb had to get a G-tube to assist. To help with Caleb’s care and dietary needs that are not covered by insurance, a fundraiser has been set up. In partnering with Impact Nutrition, tickets for a healthy meal (Regular tea, shot of Aloe and a Regular shake) will be sold with half the proceeds going to the family. Each ticket is valid until October 20, 2019.
