The Giants will be facing a familiar foe in the Section 2AA Championship on Thursday evening.
The Belle Plaine Tigers didn’t know it, but the game was over almost as soon as it started, as Belle Plaine defeated NRHEG 1-0 on Tuesday night to advance to the Section 2AA Championship game against Le Sueur-Henderson.
The game was a very defensive affair, as Belle Plaine had just four hits the whole game, while NRHEG had just one hit. Belle Plaine managed to score its game-winning run in the first inning, and then traded scoreless innings the remainder of the game.
The Giants have played Belle Plaine three times this season, earning victories every single time. The Giants previously defeated Belle Plaine 13-0 and 7-4 in a regular season doubleheader, then won 11-0 in the section playoffs last Saturday afternoon.
As the Giants are undefeated in section play, they need to win just one more time to return to the state tournament, which is scheduled for June 15-16 in Mankato.
For the Tigers to move on, they would need to defeat Le Sueur-Henderson not once, but twice, on Thursday.
