American Legion Auxiliary Unit #144 in Belle Plaine is holding an Americanism essay contest.
This year the title of the essay is: “How can we address the health and well-being of our veterans, military and their families?”
Many local students have participated in this program for many years, and the Auxiliary is extending the invitation again to all students in grades 3-12, including those with special needs. Grade levels are divided into six classes, each with different word requirements.
National winners will receive $50, and a $50 donation in the student’s name will be made to the Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship Fund. National winners will be posted at www.alaforveterans.org after the convention.
The local American Legion Auxiliary will present awards to the top three winners in each grade level. The state will also give out awards to the top winners.
If your child is interested in participating but has not received information about the essay contest from his/her school or is homeschooled, please call Legion member Georgine Gansen at 952-873-6324 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is a cover sheet that each student will need to fill out correctly and attach to the essay. Entrants are asked not to put their names directly on their essays, just on the cover sheet.
Essays are due by Tuesday, March 10, to Georgine Gansen.
