The Belle Plaine Herald has announced a new policy for endorsement letters or election-related letters that advocate for or against a candidate, ballot measure or political party.
Beginning in May, these endorsement/political letters will be subject to a $9 column inch charge and the word limit will be 400 words or less. Letter writers need to identify themselves if they are part of the candidate’s campaign. It is also policy not to publish political or election-related letters the week before the election; however, paid political advertising is accepted.
As with other letters, writers of political letters must include the writer’s name, address, phone number, and email. However, only the writer’s name and city will be published. Letters can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for possible publication is Monday at noon.
All letters to the editor and advertising content submitted are published at the sole discretion of the Editor who also reserves the right to verify information before publication. If you have any questions regarding this policy, you can contact the Editor, Dan Townsend, at the Herald office at (952) 873-2261. The Belle Plaine Herald does not endorse candidates for local, state or national office.
