Belle Plaine High School’s Jaylen Struck-Schmitz secured her second consecutive state championship in the 300m hurdles at the Minnesota State High School League  Track and Field Meet held at Hamline University at the end of last week. Struck-Schmitz entered the meet as the athlete to beat in the event and came in with the fastest seed time.

After an early fall in the 100m hurdles final, Struck-Schmitz put the adversity behind her to secure a contested but comfortable championship run with a time of  43.11.

Read about her race on page 11 and the races of five other Belle Plaine athletes, including McKenna Herrmann, who placed  fourth in the 800m run in 2.18.39, as well as the 4x400m relay team - consisting of Struck-Schmitz, McKenna Ziemke, Herrmann, and Lizzy Schmidt - who took third place with a time of 4.00.12.
