Solid Grounds Coffee House, a ministry of The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA), hosted its grand opening celebration and dedication Monday afternoon.
During the July 30 grand opening celebration, guests enjoyed samples of Solid Grounds’ freshly baked treats, including caramel and cinnamon rolls, scones, and cookies, and coffee. Solid Grounds’ seven full- and part-time team members stayed busy preparing a wide variety of coffee beverages, smoothies and hot sandwiches.
The mission of TLHA is to share Christ’s love as they serve the spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional needs of people entrusted to their care and others whose lives they touch.
“While we know God feeds our soul, Solid Grounds feeds our physical bodies,” said Michael Klatt, TLHA’s president and CEO.
The Lutheran Home Association included the coffee shop as a way to bring people together, whether they are residents of KingPath or patients at the clinic, Klatt said. Having a gathering spot is an important facet of building community. He said the 1,500-square-foot coffee shop and meeting room welcomes the community. Solid Grounds space includes a conference room for groups to hold meetings.
“We are excited about the opportunity for Solid Grounds to be a part of the Belle Plaine community and this campus,” said Michael Klatt, TLHA’s president and CEO. “Solid Grounds enables us to reach more individuals with our mission.”
Solid Grounds is a place for everyone to enjoy a cup of coffee or their favorite cold drink, spend quality time with family and friends and nourish your body with quality, fresh food. TLHA hired Nancy Grill as Solid Grounds’ manager based on her experience in food service, supply management and purchasing.
Solid Grounds is located on the Ridgeview Health Campus in Belle Plaine. The nearly 100,000-square-foot campus includes Ridgeview Belle Plaine Clinic, KingsPath Senior Living, First Choice Pharmacy, Ridgeview Rehab Specialties and more. TLHA formally included space for Solid Grounds in plans for the facility in the fall of 2016 and finalized the plans a year later.
The Lutheran Home staff held an informal contest to select the shop’s name. Mark Hayes, TLHA’s vice president of mission advancement, offered the name Solid Grounds as a blend of The Lutheran Home’s mission of faith on solid ground and coffee grounds, Klatt said.
Solid Grounds’ address is 145 Commerce Drive W. Solid Grounds is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
