Vote

There are currently 1,342 mail ballot precincts in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Voters Alliance, including several townships near Belle Plaine.

In Minnesota, cities with less than 400 registered voters and townships of any size can choose to become mail ballot precincts with a resolution from the city council or a township board. When this happens, regular polling places are closed on election day, and instead, residents are automatically sent mail ballots, without needing to fill out an application to vote absentee.

Thousands of Minnesotans have been voting this way since it was authorized in 1987. But for those new to voting in a mail ballot precinct, it’s important to understand that you are not required to vote by mail. There are still several options available for in-person voting, though it will likely be a longer drive to your new polling place.

The Belle Plaine Herald compiled information for each of the nearby townships on where and when you can go to vote in person. This information is broken down by counties and townships and includes both mail ballot precincts and regular precincts.
