Helen Hennen, 88 of Belle Plaine, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Michael Kaluza will officiate. Interment will follow Mass at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine.
Helen was born on November 19, 1932 to Ernest and Jenny (Olson) Carlson, the youngest of seven children. Helen attended Belle Plaine schools and graduated in 1950. She attended the School of Radiology at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. After graduating as an X-Ray Tech, she worked at the Swedish Hospital until she married.
On May 3, 1952 she was united in marriage to Don Hennen at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. They worked side by side for 41 years as they owned and operated Hennen’s Café & Catering Service. The family of eight all helped in the café and catering, where the children were the automated dish washers. Don and Helen enjoyed old time music and square dancing.
Helen is survived by her children, Deb (Pat) Ediger, Nancy (Brendan) Weldon, Brian (Robyn) Hennen, Cindy (Gene) Nowak, Kathy (Wafiq) Fannoun, Philip (Rhonda) Hennen, Scott (Karen) Hennen, and Jenny (Jeff) Schipull; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; siblings, Raymond, Lillian, Theodore, John, Mary, and Reno; and multiple in-laws.
