Jeff was born in Minneapolis on July 20, 1959 to Kevin and Marilyn (Butler) O’Brien. He grew up in Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School.
Jeff spent time learning the sheet metal trade at Dunwoody and from his Dad. He owned Duffy’s Pub and Pizza in Belle Plaine. He later started his own construction business in Belle Plaine. Jeff took pride in building custom homes and was proud to mentor Tony and all those who worked with him. Jeff never missed an opportunity to play cards with his card club, friends and family. He loved sports and he immersed himself in all aspects from watching, coaching or just talking about last night’s games.
Most of all, Jeff loved being surrounded by his people. He enjoyed his adventures on the motorcycle with Barb. Jeff would do anything for one of his friends. He made sure his kids knew how very much they were loved and how proud he was of each of them.
More than anything he enjoyed being a Grandpa. He never missed an opportunity to jump in the pool or steal a piece of candy. Jeff’s heart of gold and great sense of humor will be missed by many.
He is survived by his fiancé, Barb Bigaouette of Belle Plaine; children, Miranda (Brad) Carlson of Carver, Tony (Rachel) O’Brien of Belle Plaine, Kyle O’Brien of Belle Plaine, and Dylan O’Brien of Shakopee; grandchildren, Kellen and Camden Carlson, Logan and Everett O’Brien, Teresa, David, Lily, and JP Fogarty; siblings, Janis (Les) Buesgens of Belle Plaine, Kevin O’Brien of Shakopee, Mark (Mary) O’Brien of Monticello, Michael (Jessica) O’Brien of Fort Meyers, FL, Nancy O’Brien of North Mankato, Robert O’Brien of Shakopee, and Dennis (Denise) O’Brien of Shakopee; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Suzanne O’Brien.
