Merwyn John Roufs, 93, a lifelong resident of Belle Plaine, Minnesota passed peacefully and entered eternal life on Monday, November 2, 2020 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.

Merwyn John Roufs, 93, a lifelong resident of Belle Plaine, Minnesota passed peacefully and entered eternal life on Monday, November 2, 2020 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Prairie in Belle Plaine. Interment at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Belle Plaine, with military honors provided by the Belle Plaine Honor Guard. Arrangements with McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, Shakopee.
Merwyn was born March 27, 1927 in Victoria, to Raymond and Theresa (Winkel) Roufs, one of three children. Merwyn attended Belle Plaine High School and graduated in 1944. Merwyn proudly served our country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII as a Sergeant. While stationed in Germany his assignment included being a photographer, which fueled his enthusiasm to capture every family event on film throughout the years. He was a member of the VFW.
On June 26, 1954 he married Beverly Fifield at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, together they raised six children.
He was employed as a United States Mail Carrier in Belle Plaine for 35 years.
Merwyn was an avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed the company of his close family and grandchildren, passing on the love of fishing and hunting. He was an excellent clock repairman and a handy mechanic, working on cars and small engines. He volunteered at Our Lady of the Prairie Church as the clockkeeper for many years.
After Merwyn’s wife passed away, Gary (his son) helped him to live a full, active life and was his constant companion, caregiver and best friend.
Merwyn is survived by his children, Robin (Larry) Larson, Jill (Steve) Fleming, Gary Roufs, Rebecca (William) Gammelgaard, Jon (Connie) Roufs; grandchildren, Erik (Lauren Stargel) Larson, Brad (Autum) Fleming, Alyssa Gammelgaard, Tyler Gammelgaard, Amanda (Ryan) Mueller, Aaron Fleming, Aidan Roufs, Aliyah Roufs, and Janessa Roufs; great-grandchildren, Finley Larson, Cayla Fleming, Charlie Fleming, Paisley Mueller, and Flora Mueller; and sister-in-law, Marlene Roufs.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; son, David Roufs; brothers, Richard and Raymond Roufs; parents, Raymond and Theresa.
