This letter is in regard to Belle Plaine Historical Society’s annual Traditions to Celebrate the Spirit of the Season tree lighting and gathering.
Through partnerships with individuals, institutions, businesses and community organizations, the Belle Plaine Historical Society was able to bring a community tree lighting and gathering back to Belle Plaine six years ago.
Each year an honorary tree lighter has been selected for the honor of lighting the tree as community members huddle around the tree. Victorian folk singers provided live music as guests strolled through the main level of the historic Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom House. There were story tellers in the kitchen, the community choir singing Christmas Carols in the historic Episcopal Church, horse and wagon rides, live reindeer, and of course, visits with jolly old St. Nick and Mrs. Claus.
As with so many aspects of every individual’s routines and plans, this year’s pandemic has resulted in our having to cancel the 2020 Traditions event. Our hope is that we can resume this community event during the 2021 holiday season. We appreciate the Belle Plaine Public Works for lighting our traditional tree yet this year.
Honorary Tree Lighters:
2018—Leo ‘Sonny’ and Gloria Albrecht
Wishing everyone a very blessed Christmas and entire holiday season.
