Belle Plaine athletes looking for a fall activity that isn't football, cross country or tennis will now have another option, thanks to a new cooperative with Jordan's soccer program, Belle Plaine High School Athletic Director John Bergs announced on Monday, April 6.
Both boys and girls will get the chance to participate alongside Jordan's already established programs, which began six years ago. Belle Plaine athletes, therefore, will be bused to Jordan facilities for practice and games for the 2020 season. The Jordan Independent reported that games may be played in Belle Plaine in the future if Belle Plaine adds soccer lines to their football field.
The boys will compete as the Hubmen, and the girls will be the Jaguars. Both teams will compete in the Wright County Conference East Division.
At a school board meeting in March, Bergs stated that the merger comes after years of interest stemming from Belle Plaine's community education programs.
Already, Jordan and Belle Plaine compete alongside one another as the Scott West Ski Team, which launched last year, as well as Scott West wrestling, fishing and mountain biking.
