Despite an 81-60 loss at Mayer Lutheran last Tuesday, Tigers boys basketball coach Paul Fogarty was pleased with the progress his team made.

BP vs. LS-H - Jan. 21

The progress was evident in Thursday night’s 68-44 victory over LeSueur-Henderson in Belle Plaine, improving Belle Plaine to 1-1 in the MRC and 1-2 overall.

“We played like a team against LS-H,” Fogarty said. “We emphasized the value of possessions and teamwork, and our team really showed improvement.”

The Tigers took control of the game in the first half, building a 36-15 halftime advantage.

Karim Tolbert scored 21 points and Jackson Kruger 19. Luke Luskey and Cade Morrison added eight apiece. Tolbert and Kruger also led the way clearing the glass, finishing with seven rebounds.

Luskey added a team-high five assists.

“Our defense and rebounding are also improving,” Fogarty said. “I like the way our team is starting to come together and really getting to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.”

BP vs. Mayer Luth. - Jan. 19

Mayer Lutheran demonstrated why it will be a force to contend with in the MRC this season, scoring an 81-60 win over the Tigers last Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Mayer.

Kruger (19), Tolbert (17), and Morrison (14) paced the Tigers.

Fogarty said the team’s offense and ball movement improved greatly from the first game.

“Mayer had size and shot the three incredibly well,” Fogarty said. “They have three very tall players who worked well in the post, (and) they had two players that seldom missed from the three-point line.”

BP vs. New Ulm - Jan. 25

The Tigers traveled to New Ulm on Monday night, Jan. 25, and rallied from a 37-29 halftime deficit to force overtime at 57. However, the Eagles prevailed 67-65 in a non-conference tilt. The Tigers are 1-3 overall. No other details were available at press time.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers return to MRC action when Southwest Christian (1-0, 2-2) visits on Friday, Jan. 29. The Tigers also welcome Sibley East (0-3, 0-3) on Monday, Feb. 1.

Southwest Christian looks to be a formidable foe in the MRC this season, having defeated Jordan, 74-69, in a non-conference tilt last week. The Hubmen handed the Tigers a convincing defeat in the season opener.
