Belle Plaine swept boys and girls cross country competitions at the Ney Center outside Henderson last Thursday afternoon, Sept. 3.

Belle Plaine and Sibley East boys had the top 10 runners across the finish line in the three-team event, and the Tigers scored a narrow victory with 24 points, ahead of Sibley East (31) and LeSueur-Henderson (74).

Emmett Gerres was the medal winner, claiming first place in 16 minutes and 44 seconds. He was followed through the chute by Adam Steimke (2nd, 18:00), Kevin He (4th, 18:32), Samual Van Zummeren (7th, 18:57), Gunnar Geisler (10th, 19:53), Tanner Witt (11th, 19:56), and Jacob Olson (15th, 20:59).

Tigers coach Steve Schroeder indicated that the course was a little short of a 5k that is standard for a varsity race, but regardless, the Tigers had many personal bests.

The Belle Plaine girls also claimed top-honors in convincing fashion, finishing with 17 points, two off a perfect score of 15. LS-H was second with 52 and Sibley East was incomplete.

Savanna DeYoung was the medal winner, finishing in 20:33. She was followed by Lizzy Schmidt (2nd, 21:01), Malina Koep (3rd, 21:13), Sydney Weiland (5th, 22:04), Belle Jeurissen (6th, 22:19), Sydney Hartman (8th, 22:53), and Ella Schmidt (10th, 23:09).

Belle Plaine runners won all six races on the day.

The Tigers will compete against a full Minnesota River Conference field on Tuesday, Sept. 10, hosted by TCU at the Montgomery National Golf Club.
