Leah Lenz scored 23 points and had nine rebounds on Thursday’s game against Southwest Christian.

Leah Lenz scored 23 points on 9-of-9 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds, and had four steals in the Tigers 74-59 girls basketball victory over Southwest Christian on Thursday, Feb. 11, in Chaska.

Lenz also drew the difficult defensive challenge for the evening, holding Southwest Christian’s best player, Chloe Brunsberg, to 13 points.

“Leah Lenz had a fantastic night on both ends of the floor,” said Coach Mindy Chevalier, whose team improved to 5-1 in the Minnesota River Conference and 6-2 overall.

The Tigers raced to a 13-2 lead out of the gate on Thursday night and led 38-29 at halftime.

“(We) played a great first half offensively but gave up too many offensive rebounds, putbacks, layups, and free throws,” said Chevalier.

The Stars dropped two-three point baskets and a two-point field goal in the first 50 seconds of the second half to pull within a point at 38-37, but the Tigers scored the next seven points to regain control. The Stars (4-3, 4-5) would not get any closer than six for the rest of the night.

“The second half was a much better effort,” Chevalier said. “We went strong to the basket, made the extra pass, hit threes, and took care of the basketball.”

Sarah Lenz scored 25 points, including five three pointers, and Lauren Johnson added 16. McKenna Ziemke had eight assists.
