Loss to New Ulm
The Big South leading New Ulm Eagles turned up the pressure to earn a 3-2 victory after spotting Minnesota River a 2-0 first period on Saturday, Jan. 11, in New Ulm.
Emma Seaver and Nicole McCabe scored in the game’s first 6:22, but the Eagles converted on three of their 34 shots over the final two periods.
Madison Kisor made 38 saves for the Bulldogs, who fell to 6-4 (third place) in the Big South and 10-9 overall. The Eagles improved to 9-0 in the conference and 12-6 overall.
Loss to Mankato East/Loyola
Mankato East/Loyola made a pair of first period goals stand up in a 4-2 victory on Thursday night, Jan. 9, in Mankato.
Ella Boomgaarden had a second period goal, and Keely Olness scored in the third to pull the Bulldogs to within 3-2. All hopes for a come-from-behind win were dashed when Mankato East/Loyola’s Jess Eykyn scored her second and the team’s fourth goal, with less than nine minutes left.
Minnesota River was outshot 27-25. Kisor made 23 saves in the net for the Bulldogs.
Bulldogs Top Waseca
Anna Pavlo had a hat trick, including the game-tying goal at Waseca on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Pavlo tied things up with seven minutes to play, and McCabe marked the game winner a minute later in the Bulldogs’ 6-5 Big South victory.
Olness scored twice in the first period, as the Bulldogs trailed 3-2. Pavlo followed it up with her first two goals in the second period to tie the game at 4-4.
Waseca scored first in the third period to take a lead, before Pavlo and McCabe teamed up to secure victory for the Bulldogs.
Lucy Kleschult and Mary Rella had assists in the victory.
Big South action continues on Saturday, Jan. 18, with a trip to Worthington for a 2:30 p.m. face off. Luverne visits the Le Sueur Community Center on Monday, Jan. 20, for a 5:15 p.m. start, and the Bulldogs visit Mankato West on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.
