Oct. 1: 3-2 Loss to Mankato West

The 3-0 run the Tigers went on to open up their away match against the Mankato West Scarlets seemed like a sign for things to come. Belle Plaine looked to have Mankato’s number early on, but West maintained composure. And in Tuesday’s game of inches, composure was key.

Set 1

The first set for the Tigers went as well as one could ask. After West tied things up at 3, Belle Plaine went on a tear, staying a step or two ahead of the home team. A kill to the back court from Tiger Lauren Johnson put the Tigers up 9-4.

Belle Plaine stayed a step ahead of the Scarlets for the remainder of the first set and closed things out at 25-18.

Set 2

After falling behind early in the second set, they battled to regain their composure. A kill from Morgan Kruger tied things up at 10, but the Scarlets continued to take advantage of Belle Plaine’s communication errors.

The Tigers bounced back and tied things back up at 16, leading to a West time-out.

Belle Plaine closed the set out with composure and took the 25-21 win.

Set 3

But that’s where Belle Plaine’s fortune ended. The third set proved to be the most  competitive, only after the Tigers took  17-11 lead.

After some shot play, things got tied up at 24 after a Belle Plaine misjudgment.

West rallied to finish the third set  with a 26-24 win over Belle Plaine.

Set 4

West carried that momentum into the fourth set and seemed to be a step ahead of the Tigers.

Falling on the losing end of exchanges near the net, Belle Plaine fell behind sharply after West went on a 7-point tear  for the 10-18 lead.

The Scarlets then chipped away until they secured the 25-15 win.

Set 5

The fifth and final set saw the Scarlets take an early lead, which they kept until they closed out the set and the match with a 15-11 win over Belle Plaine.
