Scott West Nordic Ski Club

Jordan and Belle Plaine have combined to create Scott West Ski Club with the intention of becoming a Minnesota State High School League competitive team during the 2020-21 school ski season.

This year the upcoming ski club season will take place from Jan. 6 through Feb. 13, according to Lisa Jamison, a catalyst for the program.

The club will meet Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Practices will start at 4 p.m. and will take place on dry land and on the snow, Jamison said.

Weather permitting, the club will meet for the first three weeks at the Jordan High School campus and the final three weeks at the Ney Center near Henderson.

“Our main objective this year is to learn ski techniques in both of the Nordic Ski disciplines of Skate and Classic,” Jamison said in an email to the Herald.

Athletes will need to provide their own equipment; as a result, there will be opportunities for families to rent equipment for the season or purchase equipment at student team pricing through Gear West. For equipment information, please contact Lisa Jamison at

Parents can register their athletes for $79 through Belle Plaine Community Ed., us or Jordan Community Ed.,

Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove is hosting the Minnesota Nordic Ski Kick Off on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

They are providing equipment rental for free and free mini-lessons to get started.

“This is a great opportunity to experience skiing before the club season starts,” Jamison said.

Elm Creek Park Reserve is located at 12400 James Deane Parkway in Maple Grove.
