Belle Plaine hit an early roadblock in the form of the Jordan Hubmen at their first matchup of the season last Thursday, Aug. 29, in Jordan.

Employing a running-heavy strategy, the Tigers found some success early in terms of gaining yards when they opened up with a 12-minute, 18-play drive toward the end zone. The Tigers weren’t able to convert the drive into any points on the scoreboard, and unfortunately, the first drive proved to be a theme throughout the game for the Tigers’ offense.

After stopping the Tigers in their own territory, the Hubmen swiftly fired back with a quick scoring drive, putting up a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers again struggled to create any breakout plays and the Hubmen fired back with another scoring drive capped off by a 17-yard touchdown run to close out the half.

The Tigers then kicked off to Jordan’s Ryan Samuelson who marched into the end zone for a 21-0 lead for the Hubmen.

Another frustrating possession saw a couple of solid runs from Tiger Cole Brown that didn’t result in points, so the Tigers ended up punting.

A sharp pass led a Jordan player next to the end zone, but Garrett Boblitt thwarted the finish. On the following play, however, Jordan finished what they started and notched a 28-0 lead.

On a following possession, the Tigers were pinned against their own end zone. A 6-yard run from Brown created some breathing room for Tiger Quarterback Jackson Kruger.

The Hubmen marched forward on the following play and nearly landed a safety, but Kruger was able to escape to the half-yard line. The Hubmen then capitalized on a fumble, leading to the 35-0 lead.

The Tigers continued to fight and strung together a solid pass offense that led them down the field. At the end zone, Luke Luskey marched in for the touchdown, leading to a 35-7 deficit.

In the final drive, Jordan got within scoring range, but the Belle Plaine defense held up until the clock ran out.
