A youthful, yet experienced bench might make the difference between a landmark season for the Tigers, according to Head Coach Pat Schultz, who is excited to see how the chips may fall for the underclassmen vying for varsity spots.

Presently, the team has 38 boys from ninth-12th grade on the roster including 14 juniors and seniors. The apparent youth, Schultz said, comes as somewhat of a double-edged sword.

“There’s a lot of inexperience because we don’t have a lot of guys with a lot of experience at the varsity level,” Schultz said, “but I think depth will be a positive for us this year,”

Schultz noted that hard work will have to be a working substitute for field time for his team, but he still carries high hopes into the season. Schultz hopes the team can repeat its long history of making a statement with another Minnesota River Conference  championship. Schultz noted that last year’s third place section finish gave fuel to the team’s fire this year.

“We’re not taking anything for granted,” Schultz said as he noted that a trip to state is not out of the question for the Tigers. “We’ve got a lot of work.”

Senior Mikkel Schmidt echoed Schultz’s sentiment and noted that he and his teammates aim to make a statement this year.

“We’re looking forward to a positive season,” Schmidt said. “We’ve got a bunch of guys who want to work hard.”
