The Tigers volleyball team will have plenty of time to build on the momentum of last Thursday’s 3-0 Minnesota River Conference victory over Tri City United. Too much time.

The Tigers (7-2) will not play the remainder of the regular season, having been placed in quarantine through Nov. 24.

Tigers Activities Director John Bergs indicated that if things “go well,” the Tigers will be able to return for Section 2AA playoffs starting Nov. 30. Even though the entire district is moving to distance learning on Nov. 30, it’s possible some activities like volleyball will continue in-person.

Belle Plaine started slowly against TCU, trailing 21-17 in the opening set, before Leah Lenz served seven straight points. The Tigers took game one 25- 22 and then cruised 25-14, 25-16 in the final two games.

Coach Richard Foust said Lenz’s run of serves helped “bring some momentum to our side, which not only helped us take set one, but also carried over to set two.” Lenz finished the match 20 for 20 on serve attempts, including four aces. Lilli Kahle was 15 for 17 with two ace serves. Braxtyn Meyer had five kills and zero hitting errors in her first varsity match. Leah Lenz had 11 kills, Makenna Ziemke seven, and Kahle five. McKenna Schwichtenberg had a team high 10 digs, and Sarah Lenz had 28 set assists.

Mayer Lutheran sits atop the MRC with a 9-1 record.
