Preparations for a winter prep sports season are temporarily on hold, as the Minnesota State High School league has shut down all activities through Dec. 19, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

The MSHSL Board of Directors is meeting this week with hopes to solidify plans for a winter season.

According to Belle Plaine High School Activities Director John Bergs, the school’s athletes and coaches are “in limbo right now, not knowing when we will be allowed to get back up and running. We are waiting on direction from the (MSHSL) to make a decision.”

Bergs indicated that some school districts have put things on hold through Jan. 4.

The Minnesota River Bulldogs boys and girls hockey teams - a consolidation of St. Peter, LeSueur-Henderson, Tri-City United, Belle Plaine, and Cleveland - has already canceled its season.
