A Belle Plaine man is facing a gross misdemeanor level charge for neglect of a child after he left his two young children in the car unsupervised on Saturday, May 8.

According to the criminal complaint, on Saturday, May 8 at 1:53 p.m., the man left his two children in the car while he went into Ag Partners. A reporting party stated the man went into the store for about 10 minutes and then drove to the Kwik Trip on Main Street, according to the complaint.

Officers responded to the Kwik Trip, where the man had again left his children in the car. The man stated it was for two minutes, according to the complaint.

He now faces a gross misdemeanor level charge for neglect of a child, which has a maximum sentence of 1 year and/or a $3,000 fine.
