A 74-year old man was killed Tuesday afternoon after being trapped inside a grain bin near Faxon Township, five miles west of Belle Plaine. According to the Sibley County Sheriff's Office, at about 3:12 p.m., officials received a report of a man trapped inside a grain bin after he was unloading soybeans and became trapped and engulfed in the soybeans.

The Sibley County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Rodger Slater, of Eagan. Slater was reportedly working on a farming operation that belonged to him at the time of the incident. 

First responders cut open the side of the grain bin to release the grain in an attempt to get him out.

The Slater's body was recovered about an hour after responders arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 The incident is under investigation and an autopsy will be performed by the Midwest Medical Examiners Office.

The Sibley County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the Belle Plaine Fire Department, Green Isle Fire Department, Hamburg Fire Department, Cologne Fire Department, Jordan Fire Department, Victoria Fire Department, Ridgeview Medical Center Ambulance, and North Memorial Air Care.
