The Bulldogs girls ice hockey team continued to solidify its standing in the Big South Conference with a 6-2 victory over Fairmont last Tuesday night, Jan. 14, at the Le Sueur Community Center.
Minnesota River improved to 7-4 in the Big South and 11-9 overall. It currently sits in third place in the conference behind New Ulm (10-0) and Luverne (8-1).
Keely Olness’s goal midway through the first period gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Fairmont (4-7, 5-12) tied the score 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the second period, but Olness scored 1:11 later.
After Fairmont tied it at 2, Nicole McCabe and Emma Seaver gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead after two periods. Seaver and Anna Pavlo scored third period goals in the 6-2 final.
Seaver and McCabe also had two assists apiece.
The Bulldogs outshot Fairmont 28-18. Madison Kisor was the winning goaltender.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to welcome Luverne on Monday, Jan. 20. On Saturday, the Dragons of Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato visit the Le Sueur Community Center for a 3 p.m. contest. The Bulldogs welcome Marshall on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
